Read on. You’ll be invited to thousands of parties in your lifetime. Most will be quite good, some will be a lot of fun, one or two may be quite special. But the one you’re about to hear about eclipses them all.
At sunset, you’ll ride Austria’s largest cable car to the top of the Ahorn mountain, gliding swiftly and silently above the twinkling resort below. At the top, emerge and look out across the plateau to the silhouette of a razor-sharp ridge of serrated, glacier-hewn rock. You’ll be guided by fire torch the 5 minute walk to an ice cool alpine pleasure palace straight outta a sci fi film.
You’re 2000 metres high above sea level, and gawping at nature like a wide-eyed child way way past their bedtime. You can hear music. You turn around and see the warm gentle glow of what looks like a flying saucer. You walk nearer, crunching through the snow to the darkened entrance, which on closer inspection reveals a dome-shaped igloo, lit with disco lights and reverberating to deep bass and crystal clear treble
Welcome to The Arctic Disco: a club constructed completely of snow, with comfortable seats, loungers complete with ice sculptures and fur sofas.
Later, standing outside, warming yourself around the bonfire, you recline in a deckchair and gaze in wonder at the sky – stars so near you want to reach out and put them in your pocket for later and a haunting Moon casting its silver onto the majestic ghosts of surrounding peaks.
Someone hands you a cocktail…in a glass made from ice! You smile, and think how you almost missed out on witnessing this unforgettable party, before returning inside as one of your favourite DJ’s mixes in your favourite tune and the crowd erupt once again…
