KOTM 2010 Highlights

Our annual alpine battle of the bands ‘King of the Mountain’ – which we put together with the invaluable help of our mates at gigwise – reached new heights of attainment and attunement this April. The crowd went wild as the competition kicked off at the opening of our new Snowbombing venue ‘Narnia’.

Competitors included:

BIBELOTS

Electronic Indie & Dirty Blues: “Drenched in swagger, groove and cascading guitar, Bibelots pull off that almost impossible trick of marrying dance beats to rock and roll, and impressively, too.” Geoff Lloyd, Absolute Radio “With a style and sound not to far away from The Music, they’re on the right road to a place that looks very nice indeed” Broccoli Music “Really great guitar parts across all the tracks – everything from Shoe gazing to Kraut rock to stadium! Some strong songs and a good image” Oliver Behzadi: www.unsignedbandreview.com Bibelots are Ben Richardson (vocals, guitar), Neil Athey (guitar), Gaz Evans (bass) Tim Fielding (drums) and Bobby Harrison (keys and noises).

Catfish and the Bottlemen

Catfish And The Bottlemen are gaining popularity with their infectious indie pop melodies and the powerful live shows they stage across the country. The debut EP ‘Poetry & Fuel’ was released on Size Records label back in August 2009 and received rave reviews and went on to win BBC6 music Unsigned Band award. Having already supported the likes of Twisted Wheel, Skint n Demoralised, Dogs, Jersey Budd, The Vortex to name but a few so far this year they are confirmed to support Reverend & The Makers, The Baddies and Mark Morris from Bluetones.

Echo Empire

Echo Empire are A Coventry based Indie/Electronica band formed September 2008. Support slots so far include The Charlatans, Chicane, The Big Pink, We Are Wolves and Delta Spirit as well as a Godiva Festival 09 mainstage appearance alongside Idlewild, The Twang and Toploader.

King Porter Stomp

“King Porter Stomp blend ska, funk, afrobeat and hip hop to create a genuinely original, natural fusion of styles.” SOURCE MAGAZINE “The eight piece funk-soul-dub upstarts, King Porter Stomp, get the tent steamed up with their groove laden bass lines, funk brass hooks and body politic delivery.” VIRTUALFESTIVALS.COM (Shambala 09).

Results:

The panel of industry experts who this year included such luminaries as Kate Moss’s milkman and the lady who empties the bins at Sony Records in addition to some really important movers and shakers, (only kidding, it was Gigwise) finally awarded the coveted title to Brightons finest purveyors of pleasure KING PORTER STOMP, whose infectious brand of ska infused with hip hop delivered vocals and wrapped up in a dub stylee coating won the day. The winning band not only won 2000 Euros but they also performed an SMASHING acoustic set at the Clash Party on the mountain stage supporting Snowbombing faves – The Whip.

Even as you read this, the boys are preparing fora summer of festival appearances, including Beach Break Live, Glasto and Kendal Calling while sprightly tip-toeing through a minefield of pop star hazards, which lay in wait for newly-lauded celebrities: namely kiss-and-tell glamour models, a tour bus full of hangers on… and an invitation to appear in IACGMOOH 2014

All the best for the future, fella’s – see you at Beach Break Live!
