The votes have been counted (a whopping total of 15,945 !), the judge’s ears are red raw from rock’n’roll excess and it’s judgement day! We’re chuffed to announce the four finalists in our King of The Mountain sky high ‘battle of the bands’ in association with our pals at Gigwise. Our fab four finalists are:
The Black Sand, a south London 4-piece and fine purveyors of the rock’n'groove sound beginning to emerge from the capitals. Expect aggravated block-driven, balls-out big tunes you can dance to. www.theblacksand.com
I Only Date Models create epic indie-pop soundscapes. Conceived on a whim, little about this band is archetypal. Over the past three years they have fought like brothers and shared experiences they could only have dreamed about before. Blinded by ambition and delusions of grandeur, the wheels are in motion and they’re reaching a colossal speed….
“I Only Date Models cram every commercially friendly brand of rock into their sound…not quite Coldplay and not quite Editors” Altsounds.com www.gigwise.com/band/ionlydatemodels
Switchboard Spectacular is born out of a love of body shaking, fire starting tunes. Switchboard channelled the bands that sound-tracked their lives – Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Oasis, The Beatles, and The La’s – and started writing their own score. They’re one-nil up and Charlie Adam’s is playing out of his skin…will they hear the full time whistle in Austria? www.switchboardspectacular.com
Tonight We’re Electric are a polished electro pop with an urban twist and infectious-as-hell hooks galore. This five piece from Bedfordshire just ooze confidence and (despite their name) aren’t afraid to unplug and let the music flow. http://www.gigwise.com/band/Tonight%20Were%20Electric
Volvo Snowboming HQ would like to say a massive thank you to all the bands that entered KOTM this year and for those that didn’t make the final 4, to keep on gigging and have a fantastic 2011. We wish you the best of luck for the future. For those looking for some highlights from last year’s competition, check out this video footage from “The Bibelots”, one of last year’s KOTM finalists.
