The Steering Wheel Of Fortune

We’re sure everyone had a good week at Volvo Snowbombing 2011, but for one Bomber, the final Friday delivered a flourish she could only have dreamed of – a shiny new Volvo C30!

Francesca Evans twice came very close to not winning the sporty hot hatch. She and her husband Chris grabbed two of the last few places at Volvo Snowbombing 2011, having made a last minute decision to book about 14 days ago. But what a decision it turned out to be! Francesca, who is from Cardiff, entered one of the daily Knowledge is Key competitions and was one of the lucky 50 people to make it to the final, held Friday just after Mr Motivator had delivered his last warm-down of the festival at the top of the Penken lift. However Francesca came very close to not even giving herself a fighting chance of winning the motor.

“We weren’t going to come up the mountain for the final because we wanted to make sure we got to the forest early to get in to The Prodigy,” said the beaming Bomber, who first came to Volvo Snowbombing with her hubby last year. “I can’t quite believe it. When we saw the winner of the car last year I thought ‘I wish that was me’. “We never win anything.” However she better keep her eye on the key to her new Volvo C30, because her better half already has his on it. “She doesn’t really need a car but I do,” said Chris. “It’s an absolutely stunning car, it’s amazing.” But Francesca won’t give over the keys easily. “I’m the official owner of the car so I’ll be saying who drives it,” she said.

The final of the Knowledge is Key competition – called The Steering Wheel of Fortune, was made up of three rounds to cut the 50 down to one. With Barry Peters the master of ceremonies, the first round, called Blue or White, involved the finalist predicting whether the wheel would stop in a blue section or a white one – whoever guessed wrong was out.

The second round took a bit of know how, with the remaining finalists having to guess where Snowbombing was held back in 2003. Those who answered correctly made it through to the final stage, where they scribbled their names on a number on the Steering Wheel of Fortune before Barry gave it a spin. Francesca plumped for number 5, which for her at least, turned out to be a very profitable choice. Well done Francesca, see you on the Volvo Road Trip in 2012!
