The World’s Greatest Show on Snow can exclusively reveal that DIZZEE RASCAL will be replacing Snoop Dogg as the headliner of  the ERISTOFF Forest Party at Snowbombing 2012. He is just the first of an AVALANCHE OF NEW ACTS to be announced this week.

With Snoop Dog having cancelled his European tour we at Snowbombing  HQ were faced with the task of finding a new headline act for the festival this year. We thought long and hard and searched high and low for the perfect replacement; an act that is worthy of being on the legendary forest stage; someone with massive tunes, able to get everyone bouncing up and down in a forest surrounded by the alps, and an act that will blow the snow off the trees!!

Dizzee is no stranger to the mountains, having blown us away at SB09 when he played ‘Bonkers!’ for the first time live and proceeded to bring the house down! Uniting the underground urban scene with arena-filling spectacular showmanship and an explosive approach to performance has seen Dizzee Rascal’s nu-rave recipe of gregarious UK grime being ecstatically exported to all corners of the globe.

Dizzee had this to say about his return to SB…

“I can’t wait to get back to Snowbombing… The last time was wicked but this time will be even better headlining the Forest stage. I’ve got a few new ones to try out on ya and this time I’m actually going to learn to snowboard!” Dizzee Rascal

Now a festival headliner in his own right, Dizzee is an electrifying live performer – a fact which has seen him smash into the mainstream with more hits beneath his belt than a Mafia marksman (six number 1‘s and counting…). Yet he’s remained exciting and musically interesting; blending his early sounds with an array of genres, whilst maintaining an unsullied street cred and ample respect from his peers.

Dick’s deep in ‘the valley of desire’ is always a pleasurable place to slide into - and never more so than last Friday night when our OCCUPY musical missionaries took up position in a revampred, refurbished and great looking Dicks Tea Bar after an afternoon testing the Motorola DEFY in the seriously sub-zero temperatures. The estimated 600 snowshoe’d souls who made it through the biggest dump outside Marseille greatly appreciated URBAN KNIGHTS winter warming set and remained bouncing, chugging and shufflin’ on the ‘floor throughout SomeGuy’s set until the end…a great night!

Mission Impassable!: Malaysia, Val Thorens 

The biggest snowfalls in the alps for 30 years eh? What a great time to tour the cream of European ski & board resorts! It took 7 hours to get our OCCUPY aural activists from Val D’Isere to Val Thorens due to roads being rendered impassable. But just like all superheroes they got there just in the nick of time… Only to find the entrance was blocked by 4 foot of fallen snow! Unperturbed, they ‘dug for victory’  (at one point using the DEFY to chip away at the ice around the doorframe!) and cleared the way for an estimated 1500 flake-fightin’ folk who battled the biggest blizzard of the winter so far to catch a flava of Snowbombing 2012! Tune of the night was Fatboy Slim and Beardyman’s cheeky minimal monster, ‘Get Naked‘ (what… It’s minus 9 outside!).

Urban Knights once more bang on the button, rinsing it proper til close. With an hour before OCCUPY left town we recovered the DEFY we’d buried in snow at midnight… Would it work…’bonjour, taxi?, parlez vous Anglais’…’Yes, where would you like to go?’…to bed!

SB:12 Occupy European Resort Tour Latest: Mountain-lovin’ travellin’ deck minstrels, The Urban Knights are currently occupying Chamonix – and Tuesday witnessed a double-header of a mision which began with ‘piste testing’ the MOTOROLA DEFY on the rails and kickers all afternoon long, before all 3 (The Knights and the DEFY) emerged unscathed and battle-ready for the after dark aural assault on the cool ‘Le Vert‘ club.

Packed wall-to-wall with steamed up seasonaires and some very lucky holiday makers (‘…the best music we’ve since we got here… In fact the only music we’ve heard since we got here!’), the party rated a 9 on the Cooper Scale (the Richter scale of Snowbombing).

Biggest tune of the night was ‘Touch My Horn‘ by Jesse Rose…. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! With Val D’Isere and then Val Thorens in their sights, the OCCUPY bandwagon rolls ever on, making a stand against cheesy apres ski, musical mediocrity and weedy handsets!

The hotel features it’s own solarium, with saunas and massages available. All rooms are ensuite, with satellite TV and Wifi.

Hotel Theresia, Bichl – 4 Star -Double/Twin Available – Prices from £379 pp

Located right at the ski bus stop for both the Horberg (Mayrhofen) lift and the (Greenline) Glacier bus – both are free…as is the snowbombing night bus, which ferries you from Hippach to Mayrhofen each night!

Down in the basement oasis, you’ll find a Sauna, steam bath, whirlpools, heated benches, infrared health cabin, solarium and fitness room.

A typically Tyrolean, small family run guesthouse located in the farming community of Swendau which offers a warm welcome and true Tyrolean hospitality. Andrea is always smiling and Christian knows his way around schnnapps like Jenson Button knows Monaco.

The hotel is a short distance to the village of Ramsau where you can get the train to Mayrhofen, but the bus stop is only a few minutes-walk away. The free day and night shuttle will take you into town in under 10 minutes (just show your Snowbombing wristband!)

We are sad to announce that Snoop Dogg has cancelled his European tour which unfortunately means he is unable to appear at Snowbombing 2012. We are extremely disappointed but we are now working around the clock to replace him. We will have an update for you soon.

BEN UFO: Guided by Ramadanman, Pangaea and Ben UFO, the UFO collective were made in Leeds for export. Their working visa’s has just been stamped SNOWBOMBING 2012 and with 16 releases and a string of sellout parties tucked under their belts, it’s no wonder they’re stood in the Red ‘Something To Declare’ queue.

Contact Music: What was your best festival last year? 
Maverick Sabre: For me man, probably V Festival, the crowd were just out of this world. Snowbombing was the most enjoyable. It’s out in Austria, in the mountains, like a scene from 007 or something. It’s just so brilliant. And Snoop Dogg’s headlining this year. It’s just this tiny little village in the mountains looking over the Alps. You get this little cart up there, with typical Austrian architecture and everything. You get to the top and it’s the most amazing thing you’ll ever see and everyone is raving man, in this little Austria town. Fat Boy Slim did a set in an igloo. So fu*king top.

CM: So where would you wanna play next year, festival wise?
MS: Anywhere I did this year and more but if anyone is listening: Snowbombing, come and get me, I wanna come back and play man.

We recently joined forces with the London-based ‘Kool Kids Club‘ for a one-off club night last December with SB:12 confirmed DJ Switch, alongside fellow DJ and producer, Sinden!

Taking place on Dec 22nd at The Sunrooms in Southend-on-sea, the night produced an eclectic mix of house, funk, bass and grime, and hip-hop.

REGGAE REGGAE COURSE! It’s Rompa’s Reggae Shack!

Time to get irie in the open air! SB:12 unveils a brand new mountain music venue courtesy of Urban Nerds legend and Snowbombing veteran Rompa! Rompa’s Reggae Shack will showcase the smoothest most laidback joints in a stunning alpine setting, on a purpose-built sun terrace some 5000 feet above sea level, with spectacular views over the surrounding slopes.

Situated at the bottom of Red 7, on the right hand side in the ‘Eisberg Hutte‘, the Reggae Shack stocks the finest roots, ska and dub nuggets. DJs on rotation will include Fattie Boom Boom, Savage Henry, Daddy Nature, Dusty Lungs, Sai, and The Farm Yardies.

Also expect special guest performances from none other than Oneman, Barry Ashworth, Marcus Nasty, Shy Fx, Tayo, and Sgt pokes, (with more to be confirmed); not to mention some extra special shenanigans from the likes of party enthusiasts Raffle Mafia (with Bingo Banton and DJ Smash Hits), who’ll be making an appearance with their specially crafted alpine party antics! So remember… Better dread than red (run)!

To get you in the mood have a listen to the first in a series of exclusive mixes for Rompa’s Reggae Shack at Snowbombing 2012… First up is DJ Tayo.

Snowbombing is different things to different folk; for some its the best week of the year spent in snow, sun and a state of eternal laughter. For others its a surreal dayglo escape from mundane grey reality, while for others its a chance to hear the very best electronic acts on the planet play in a perfect place.

But for Moscow’s council workers, ‘Snow Bombing’ is something else altogether… After a recent heavy dump of the white stuff, the city’s municipal workforce were instructed to clear snow from the roofs of many buildings, for fear they would collapse (which says a lot about building standards in Mr Putin’s country…).

So hi ho, hi ho, off to work they’d go; with spades in hand and no consideration whatsoever for what was below, they shovelled huge chunks of snow and ice with wanton abandon into the streets below… These are the results (luckily there were no fatalities as everyone was inside drinking vodka at the time…).

Big thanks to everyone who witnessed an electric NYE with us at the Coronet last Saturday, as we teamed up with our club buddies Eastern Electrics.

The Snowbombing room was a festive treat; a magical winter forest,‘treesyily’ the most welcoming loved-up shrubbery anywhere in London! Our favourite Eristoff Wolverines were prowling the forest, and DJs Danny Raper, Urban Knights, Luca C, Donkey Boss, and Straightola & Laith M were very much in the mix, as everyone ‘leafed’ 2011 behind and branched out into 2012!

Meanwhile in the main room, Mount Kimbie scaled dizzying heights, prior to Parisienne party-powerer Laurent Garnier’s marvellous midnight set which climaxed in more popping balloons than an octuplets 5th birthday party and more dancefloor snogs than the last song at an under 18′s disco (cue couple in the below image…)

Other rooms saw Bloc, Mulletover and Warm each host proceedings, adding an ecelctic selection of DJ’s to the evening, and thus making it even more difficult to stay put in one room.

The party was a complete sell out (3000 strong!), making it one of the biggest nights witnessed in London on the 31st Dec, and a memorable end to 2011.  Now we welcome the new year, as Snowbombing 2012 edges closer and closer to reality….

95 days and counting ‘bombers!

The night was another opportunity to win a pair of VIP tickets to Snowbombing 2012 courtesy of Motorola Defy. All the pics have been uploaded to Facebook here – If you had your photo taken in the Winter Proof photo booth you could be in with a chance of winning… Don’t forget to tag yourself!

Liverpudlian wunderkind Mele opened room 2 with a seductive mix of party bass and classic house, whilst Chew the Fat’s own prodigy Foamo did the very same in room 1. As the yuletide merry makers piled into the venue, the night turned up a notch by Snowbombing regulars Sinden, Doorly, Marc Roberts and Switch… Not forgetting Snowbombing tracksuit hero Tayo, who covered for a missing Devlin with a huge drum n bass drop of ‘Be true‘ by Commix.

As Benga stepped up to the plate there was a palpable sense of anticipation about this rare London appearance from one of Dubstep’s founding fathers…

With MC Youngman alongside him manning the mic, Benga didn’t disappoint, dropping a slew of brand new cuts and bangers from himself, Redlight, Flux Pavillion, Skrillex and more besides. Such was the fever in the room that one of our prize banners was nicked right off the main-stage without anyone noticing… To the light fingered thief out there, close but no cigar… We have CCTV!

All in all it was a suitably raucous return for Snowbombing to the best club in London. Beats were dropped, banners were nicked and merry was made!

Smoother than a Torville & Dean double axel from 1984, and boasting more sex appeal than Chazz Michael Michaels, Snowbombing ascended upon Skate’s Somerset house with one goal in mind; to bring our notorious Snowbombing soundtrack to the heart of London for 3 festive showdowns.

Set amongst  the incredible 16th Century piazza of Somerset House, and having nearby mulled wine on tap, our first session on Thursday started… well… very elegantly! The evening saw two of the kings of London’s re-energised Disco scene, Ben Pound and Damon (Disco Bloodbath) take to the rink’s DJ booth for an imposing session of four-to-the-floor disco and funk. It proved the perfect tonic as the skaters jittered along at a merry pace.

As the evening went on… the sleek graceful turns witnessed in earlier sessions were more of a distant memory, as our dedicated ‘bombers began to resemble nothing short of ‘bambi’s on ice‘. This being said, (bar a few painful looking slips and one or two barrier collisions) the night on the whole was a graceful and dignified beginning to our residency on the ice!

Friday night took things up a notch or two with the arrival of Snowbombing residents and dub-ska rabble rousers The Dub Pistols. Alongside Skitz and Rodney P, the mulled wine flask provided for the DJ’s was quickly drained, refilled and promptly drained again, making the proceedings a much livelier affair! Once again the sold out sessions skated along blissfully to dub-plates selected by the Pistols, and Christmas was well and truly in the air.

The Saturday was the final night of Snowbombing’s Somerset House take-over, as our guests skated (staff included!) to sets from Caze Nove, Martello, and Brighton-based Maxxi Soundsystem. The night created a memorable finale to our 3 nights on the ice, producing the perfect round off to our beat-based regime over Somerset House.
