If you were out having a laugh (and as Snowbombers, you probably were!) a couple of Saturdays ago and missed the fantastic Snowbombing  take-over on MTV, where our Forest parties with some of the hottest artists on Planet Earth were aired on the world’s biggest music channel-then never fear! There are a good few opportunities to reminisice about the best show on snow all over again as MTV Music & MTV Live begin a  repeats programme over the next six weeks.

Shows from Rudimental, Disclosure, Example and our incendiary 2013 headliners Kasabian looked stunning in high-definition focus and the electric atmosphere of the Forest was caught perfectly. Also umissable is the Best Bits compilation show that attempts to stuff every bit of action, madcap loonery and general foolishness that took place this year in the ‘hoff, and whilst its impossible to catch all the action at Snowbombing, MTV did a damn good job at trying!

We understand that a lot of people are chomping at the bit to get going with planning the next holiday of a lifetime, and we’ll keep you updated at every turn! We do know Snowbombing 2014 will be our best event ever. How do we know this? Well because EVERY year we always manage to eclipse all previous ones. After a breahtless 2011 headlined by The Prodigy and an anarchic 2012 event topped by Dizzee Rascal, we topped our own summit with the capture of Kasabian to headline the Forest Finale this April.

The ‘World’s Greatest Show on Snow’, Snowbombing and the World’s greatest music channel, MTV is a partnership forged high in the Austrian alps, and nurtured on sublime snow, (ice)block-rockin beats…and Pork rolls!

The MTV cameras were at this spring’s Snowbombing in Mayrhofen, Austria and captured it all – from KASABIAN and RUDIMENTAL tearing up the Forest party to EXAMPLE and DISCLOSURE’S awesome tree-mendous live open-air shows.

In a move which is unparalleled for Snowbombing, the results will be broadcast ‘in parallel’ across BOTH channels.

MTV @ Snowbombing 2013 will feature six stupendous shows on both MTV Music (Sky Channel 125) and MTV Live (Sky channel 126) this Saturday 11^th May.

This Saturday either stay in  throw a Snowbombing re-union house party or programme your Sky + box or Virgin Box for some premium festival telly-plus to try and spot yourself amongst the crowds!

Snowbombing in parallel on MTV…unparalleled!

Now the snow is melting, the ski’s are back in the attic and Hans the Butcher is packing his Speedo’s for the Bavarian version of Butlins, we can smell the UK festival season coming nearer and nearer. One of our undisputed favourites is the Parklife Weekender. This year the Parklife gang (backed by Manchester club kings Warehouse Project) are taking the end of term rave-off up a notch by relocating the action to Heaton Park, a mammoth spot on the edge of Manchester!

With a lineup that encompasses the biggest names in Pop, Electronica and Dance with the likes of Example, TNGHT, Hot Natured Live, The Maccabees, Plan B and pretty much every DJ woth his salt, we are getting psyched for the weekend of 8th and 9th June already.

After a winter of skiing, boarding and frantically preparing for our annual mission to the mountains for Snowbombing, a serious Summer Holiday is always a priority to soothe ice-bashed bums, wind blasted faces and to generally re-charge the batteries before the next ‘bombing onslaught come autumn!

That’s why we’re excited to announce that Snowbombing will be only be taking over the Discoteca at the CLOSING PARTY of the esteemed We Love…2013 Ibiza series! The We Love…gang took over the Schlussel for a particularly lively shindig at Snowbombing 2013 a few weeks back, and after a Summer that see’s the cream of global Dance music take to the hallowed DJ Booth of Space, the closing party line-up for We Love…in association with Snowbombing takes some serious beating….

As the curtain falls on their 15th season, We Love…is going out with a MASSIVE bang. The covered terrace is headlined by the inimitable (and Snowbombing regular) Fat Boy Slim who will be playing ringmaster and bringing his classic big beat sounds. Helping him see out the year are a merry band of fully versed and much-loved twosomes in the shape of 2Manydjs, Groove Armada, PBR Streetgang and Bicep. We Love… residents Ryan O Gorman and Jem Haynes open the terrace together and will not be holding back. We look after proceedings fully in the Discoteca with a blizzard of residents and big hitters. James Zabiela, Paul Woolford, Blawan, Agoria and Marc Roberts hold court over the room of doom and are joined by not one, but two live acts – Machinedrum and Simian Mobile Disco who will be wowing us with their incredible analogue synth set up.

Headlining the Sunset Terrace is Jonathan Ulysses joined by Ian C on pots and pans. Jason Bye and the man on the keys, Mat Playford set the tone. After Dark, Mr Doris funks it up with Radio 6 and Red Dwarf’s soul man Craig Charles backed up by turntable professionals Mo’ Funk and Dave Chambers.

The likes of Dave Phillips  Simon Rigg, Acid Pauli Alfredo, Jamie Fatneck and Andy Carroll round up the eye wateringly brilliant music bill.

With the pain of departing our beloved Mayrhofen still strong in our hearts, here at Snowbombing HQ we’ve put our heads together and put together a post-piste playlist to rekindle the magic of the 2013 festival!

10. Disclousure feat AlunaGeorge-White Noise

The damned young brotherly duo’s awesome club-filler with AlunaGeorge got many a rewind at Snowbombing 2013, whilst EZ played the corking VIP version at the end of his set.

9. Justin Martin-Don’t Go

Not only did this classic take a battering in Mayrhofen, but the excellent Dusky remix too. Bo!

8. Duke Dumont-100% (Skreamix)

Reaching the UK No.1 spot as Snowobmbing 2013 kicked off, it was this decidely disco-led remix from our in-house caner Skream that won hearts and shuffled toes at the festival. Skream-we will always need you. 100%!

7. Toddla T-Take it Back

Although released in 2012, we had to place this one in the top 10. Causing several hands in the air moments, “Take it Back” is simply THE perfect Snowbombing anthem, with it’s catchy chorus and old-school piano house melody. As T Willy would say himself…Ooof!

6. Paranoid London-Paris Dub 1

This wasn’t one for the faint-hearted, and most heard emenating from the Bruk N Stadl at god knows o’clock in the morning…

5. Pedestrian-Hoyle Rd

Another late night creeper that found its way from the dancefloor to the office speakers….

4. Close feat Scuba (George Fitzgerald remix)

An awesome remix from one star (Scuba) who sadly missed the event through illness, and one (George Fitzgerald) who made it…and smashed it!

3. Dusky-Nobody else

Arguably THE most played out track of Snowbombing, but for a reason. ‘Nobody Else’ envokes the spirit of deep house over an infectious melody that grips House heads and the general party monsters alike. It never breaks a sweat but it can leave aclub in tatters. Plus, Dusky were awesome in the Schlussel!

2. Ejeca-Alone

Awesome stuff from new kid on the scene Ejeka-proving that minimal does not mean boring. Best heard on the Funktion One speakers during Pan Pot’s set in the Bruk N Stadl!

1. Breach-Jack

If the award went for most plays then Breach’s new Dirtbird banger Jack would take home the prize by a mile. However it was the quality of the DJ’s that were dropping this fireball that perked up our ears each time. Everyone from Justin Martin and Eats Everything to Skream and, most suitably, Heidi at her “Jackathon” shindig that closed out the week in style, were dropping “Jack”, with a roudier audience reaction each time. Jack indeed we did!

Ben Pound, our Mountain stage manager worked so hard during Snowbombing running the Board park stage and keeping the beat going, that its hardly surprising he fell asleep on Saturday night…and missed his flight home. After 36 hours he woke up, yawned and stretched in warm spring sunshine, and decided he couldn’t face the eternal British winter and decided to take up the offer of a bed and some Alpine hospitality.

Here’s his dispatch from the mighty TUX glacier – a powdery playground which is open all year round and is only a short bus ride from Mayrhofen.

To get to heaven follow the sun! Head South West from Mayrhofen and follow the river course past Lanarsbach and through a couple of tiny hamlets before you reach the final settlement before Italy…Tux. And that’s it; you’re literally at the end of the road.

But this is more trump card than last resort, for ahead of you stands the mighty Tux glacier: 3,286 m of timeless rock and ice

After taking three swift gondolas, rising effortlessly through spectacular ice fields and razor sharp ridges. You emerge, blinking and breathing hard at nearly 10,000 feet and take the smaller lift for a moment’s reflection on the observation platform. The view just takes your breath away; 360 degrees of eternal mountain ranges, surrounding you like ancient armies massed in legion, too numerous to count, too formidable to fight. You surrender to insignificance and it feels strangely liberating.

On a clear day you can see over three countries; south is Italy. To the North is Germany, Salzburg lies due West, while all around is the Austrian Tyrol.

Ski’s clatter and snowboard bindings click in preparation for the descent, the air otherwise silent but for the low whir of the top gondola station. And then the cause of the peace hits you: there’s no bloody awful Apres ski music . I can report with relief that in addition to being a tree-free zone, Tux is for the most part, also “cheese” free!

The recently opened Ice Cave is a never-to-be-forgotten journey to what looks like the centre of the Earth; as you follow the guide deep into the ice, along fissures dripping with the purest water, past dramatic surreal stalagtites and surprising subterranean features which even include a frozen lake. Each step you take more awe-inspring than the last. Between the summit and the Tuxer Ferner Haus there are ample chairs and drags – some of which are never busy.

If you want to descend, turn right when you are level with the restaurant instead and follow Red 3 down to the Tuxer Ferner Haus restaurant, you’ll see it below you, rows and rows of deckchairs facing you…and the prospect of topping up the tan with a cool beer…only hope I don’t fall asleep…

Wise words: Always take a mobile phone and piste map and never ski this area alone. Extreme caution should be exercised when venturing off-piste, especially in springtime when crevices can occur. Intelligent Venue Solutions, Europe’s market leading provider of contactless technology at live events enabled us to go beyond the pale at Snowbombing 2013 and helped the eager Snowbombers get suitably legless in a handless fashion…

We became the first music festival in mainland Europe to successfully deploy an integrated RFID payment, access and social media system with the Barclaycard Arctic Disco this year, as all Barclaycard Arctic Disco ticketholders were issued with a Barclaycard PayBand, an RFID wristband pre-loaded with 20 euros, redeemable at the mountaintop bars, one of which was located inside the real igloo. High times indeed!

As well as cashless payments, the PayBands granted electronic access to the cable car lift and could also be linked to the wearer’s Facebook accounts to trigger automatic personalised check-ins, status updates and tagged photos. It’s basically the kind of thing Spock would have used on the Enterprise, and is an exciting insight into the future of how we can keep updating and improving the best show on snow in years to come.

Snowbombers kept warm sipping hot gluhwein and dancing in their snow-boots to a selection of world class DJ sets from the likes of Eats Everything, Norman Jay, James Zabiela and Krafty Kuts, plus one of the hottest live gigs of the year – an intimate sunset acoustic performance by Kasabian. If you were there then you know how special this was!

It was without doubt a serious highlight of the week, and do not sleep on tickets for the 2014 Barclaycard Arctic Disco…then pass the gluwein to the left hand side!

A metre of snow followed by bluebird skies…‘white-out’ blizzards lifting to warm spring sunshine…SB13 had the lot!

Forget the hype. No need for exaggeration. If you were there you know it was special. Maybe the best yet? Many of us think so. Together we made it memorable in the mountains…so thank you, danke, and an awesome amount of alpine appreciation to everyone who made this years Snowbombing what it was: not least our resort partners Erich Strass, Zissi buses, Christian Grillalm, Martin Pilzbar, Yodelling Max at the Glecherspalte, the White Lounge Team and Ahornbahn crew and of course Hans the Butcher for chopping ‘em out all week and keeping us all fed. (Last we heard he’s put an offer in for Man City AND Chelsea after successfully buying Bayern Munich last year…).

The 2013 Snowbombing Road Trip rolled into town on the Sunday to a heroes fanfare, with the Circus theme providing the stage for what’s been described by seasoned Road Trippers as the best one yet!

Our artists and DJ’s excelled this year: special shouts go to Kasabian, Arnold Schnitzelfinger and Hurtsall Zebeats of Austrian Filter House, Dub Pistols, Carl Cox, Norman Jay MBE (has there ever been a better Barclaycard Arctic Disco?) and our best pals Artwork, Skream and Klose One for making the rearranged Rekorderlig Backcountry Party something everyone who was there will never forget.

Oh – and get well soon to our pal Krafty Kuts who this year paid for his passion on the piste and everyone who missed their flight home or woke up swearing to never touch Jagermeister again!

Finally…if there was a gong at the Festival Awards for Best Crowd Snowbombers would win it hands down. Fancy dress in minus 12 degrees at the Arctic Disco…making Kasabian in the Forest the new ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and just not stopping havving dun all week long, no matter what the weather threw at you!

You make it all worthwhile and we don’t care how cheesy that sounds – it’s true – you’re the best, simple as.

“Snowbombing”, Austria’s best winter event of music and sport!”

The sign said that the Italians do it better. Meh, If so then you should admit that the English are at least nearly perfect in terms of having fun. It’s a question of mentality and organization because of the precision and logistics of this colorful festival based in Mayrhofen Austria, but realized by Anglo-Saxon thinkers, it is something amazing.

Once you get used to the lively atmosphere halfway between Viareggio Carnival Street Parade in Zurich, there is mixed among the multitude of English, German, French, Austrians (and the very few Italians) to enjoy the snow-covered slopes, maybe making a stop in Mountain Venue type the Barclay Arctic Disco to enjoy the show by Kasabian. These lines do not do justice to what is Snowbombing. Let us try this: while you surfed in one of the coolest spots in Europe, it may happen that you will be able to post in a nightclub made ​​entirely with snow, where they serve cocktails in ice glasses, while Kasabian (precisely) is perform an acoustic for 300 lucky customers in ecstasy. There, that’s better. If you let escape tickets for the Arctic Disco, or just prefer the low frequencies, you can fall back on Rompa’s Reggae Shack - a typical refuge in the top of the mountain where people like Daddy Nature , Max Powa and Dub Pistols play on a plant Funktion 1 and ruffles – or on the Park Board Terrace, a snowpark equipped with pipes, grinds and kickers, with snowboard competitions, and tunes from the Sound DJ Disco Battle counter party. Skream ,Artwork and MistaJam that challenge to the sound of disco, funk and rare groove. And this is just what happens during the daylight hours.

In the village the main venue is the Racket Club , roomy structure in which they perform big shots like Carl Cox and its many nuances cash straight or Andy C and MC GQ with their very technical drum and bass set.

To say it takes a bit of elbow grease and persperation to get Snowbombing ready is a bit of an understatement. With stages to build on the mountain, 8 venues to load, over 2 miles of bunting to go up, 400 flags and banners, countless soundsystems to soundcheck and over 5000 mental Snowbombers to prepare welcome packs for, it”s fair to say that the week before the madness kicks in is fairly stressful for the team!

However putting it all-together and testing out the new features and additions is tremendous fun and part of the reason why we do it in the first place. We love building Snowbombing from scratch each year and cannot wait for you all to arrive to see Mayrhofen at it’s best.

When you go ‘boarding in January or when you hit Ibiza its very simple and straightforward. But Snowbombing takes place on the cusp of the seasons and has one foot in winter and the other in beautiful Alpine spring. So you could well see temperature variations of between minus 15 and + 30 degrees!

The forecast for this year is that it will be unsettled (sunshine and showers) BUT these are the alps and the weather can change before you can say “Tomasz Schafernaker” – so don’t get caught out! Even if you’re in a t-shirt and board shorts in the afternoon, it will still be crisp at night…and the forest always feels like an Alpine forest after the sun disappears – hats, jackets are a good idea when heading off into the woods.

You can always pick up a Snowbombing beanie if you left yours in the cupboard…

 So first the essentials: jacket, gloves and a hat (especially useful for outside at the Arctic Disco!) and sturdy shoes or boots (trainers and Converse have less grip than Graham Norton’s handshake and are also lacking in insulation so make sure you pack for both the mountain AND the dancefloor.

Ladies – leave your heels at home (you’ll be doing a fair bit of strolling around between venues and spare yourself the hobble!), but bring your bikini’s – there are lots of pools and spas in Mayrhofen…and if the forecast is right you’ll be able to strip off and kick back in a deck chair at some point.

Fancy dress: Snowbombers are known for dressing up. Do your best!

* As its Easter, the shops will be closed on Sunday and Monday – so if you require anything from the chemist, please stock up before you leave (don’t worry: the 24 Hour garage sells beers, red bull, jagermeister and Paprika crisps!).

Finally, sunglasses are an essential piece of kit for a snow holiday, the reflection is fierce and without them you won’t be able to ski/’board and will end up buying goggles with money you ought to be spending on Jagermeister and Paprika crisps.

Monday: (Backcountry Party) Snow White’s Disco Whore House (think Walt Disney channeling Jenna Jameson in Studio 54).

Tuesday: Street Party: Mardi Gras: (aim for colour, sparkle and headdresses…but no bare boobs please, laydeez children are present) *Mardi Gras literally means Fat Tuesday so feel free to come as Vanessa Feltz or Eamonn Holmes too!

Wednesday: (Backcountry Party) 25 Years of Acid House. (fluro, baggy, ravey, UV, smiley…and if you really want to be authentic, toilet roll in your bum bags (there was no portaloos back in the day, kids) and a mobile phone the size of a house brick (which went flat after an hour). Essential phrases: ‘Sorted!’ ‘Having it!, ‘Oi Oi, Saveloy!’and…’Acieeeed!’

Thursday: (Boardpark) Norman Jay’s Good Times Soundsystem presents Carnival! (swapping a Hill in Notting for a mountain in Austria: you know the score).

For the Mardi Gras steet party think big, bold, colourful…and yes a little camp!

 Likewise with gloves. You WILL fall over and like Cornwall, snow is cold and wet. Don’t shell out for expensive ski gloves when you can pick up a cheaper pair in the UK.

Afternoon ‘bombers,

We have one regrettable bit of info to inform you of: Shy FX is no longer performing at Snowbombing 2013. We’re gutted that the Original Nuttah will not be making his annual mission to Mayrhofen to celebrate with us, but we’ve pulled a pretty darn good replacement out the bag, even if we say so ourselves…

The most famous mouth in music will be hitting Snowbombing 2013!

We are delighted to announce that Goldie will be making his Snowbombing debut in the Arena on the Wednesday night of Snowbombing! The Metalheadz boss, erstwhile actor, celebrity and all-round national treasure will be hitting the ‘hoff for the first time ever, bringing with him a massive bag of Drum and Bass dubs and his infamous gold toothy grin.

You can catch Goldie at 4.30am-6am in the Arena for David Rodigan’s Ramjam event on Wednesday night. Definitely not one for the faint-hearted, but definitely not one to be missed!

Manchester’s favourite son of indie dance: Will Tramp

We can also reveal that one of the finest Indie/electro clash DJs that our fine nation has ever produced, Mr Will Tramp, will be making a last minute dash across Europe to play for all you lucky buggers who bagged a Kasabian Acoustic Show Ticket. The Tramp resident has enjoyed stirling gigs over the last year at events such as Warehouse Project and Festival Number Six, and looks set to top the lot with a set that most DJs would sell their record collections for: the party in the Forest!

Catch Will at 20:00 in the Barclaycard Arctic Disco after Kasabian finish their acoustic show on the Thursday and at 20:00 in the Party in the Forest on the Friday. He is replacing old Snowbombing favourite Jon Carter, who unfortunately has had to pull out of the 2013 event.

We are also excited to welcome in London’s newest party sensation Regression Sessions. It’s a night that does what it bloody well pleases and suggests you do the same.  Are you tired with always having to choose between quality music events rammed with chin-stroking heads, or venues offering unpretentious fun with a disappointing soundtrack? We know its a big fat yes! Regression Sessions is here to let you have a cake and eat it too…so sounds pretty spot on for Snowbombing!

During the last moments of another beautiful day in Mayrhofen over 15 years ago, an old goat herder heard a strange but oddly melodic rhythm on the air. He raced over to a nearby shack and glimpsed through the slats to see the beginnings of a brand new music revolution…

What do you get if you cross traditional Tyrolean folk music with drum machines and electronic gadgetry? The answer is AUSTRIAN FILTER HOUSE (AFH) – a musical movement inspired by the magic of the mountains and executed by two mysterious characters in lederhosen, the notorious native Tyroleans Arnold Schnitzelfinger and Hurtzall Zebeats. It was invented over 15 years ago amongst the unique energy and spirit found only in the Zillertal mountains, the home of Snowbombing.

Amazingly, we’ve unearthed some recent footage of the AFH lads gearing up for their Snowbombing reunion spectacular. This is a must watch!

After a 5 year hiatus on separate projects (some say the riff was down to musical differences, others say it was down to Heidi the Goat Herders daughter) get ready for their grand reunion at the Snowbombing Street Party. With Annie Mac and other taste makers announcing it as “one of the most important comebacks ever” and the performance due to be performed in theirtraditional Austrian attire, this will be a one-off spectacular to rival Live Aid.

Their re-appearance at this years Snowbombing Street Party is the most eagerly anticipated live show in the Alps since Facloperformed Rock me Amadeus at ‘Obergurgle Rocks!’ back in 1986 with David Hassselfof playing maracas…and that our friends is quiet some anticipation!

BIG FUN… SMALL SCREEN! : MTV RETURN TO SB13!

The location for the Kasabian Acoustic show… not a bad vista!

MTV and MTV News will be filming the key events of Snowbombing 2013, with a series of 30 minute programmes to follow. From Kasabian Live, to Katy B and Rudimental Live in the Racket Club to Example and Disclosure’s raucous show in the Forest, MTV will be on hand to capture our most exciting music programme of all time!

Dear ‘bombers,

Ever fancied strutting your stuff on the mainstage of the Racket Club in front of a baying mob of rowdy ravers? Throwing down some vinyl in the Arctic Disco as people pull shapes around you? Seeing off the festival in style on the world famous Forest Party stage? Well now you can! Sort of…

We are installing the brand new Rave Shed into Snowbombing 2013. This pint sized but mighty structure will be sited at the entrance to the Europahaus, serenading customers as they come inside to grab their welcome packages. This is where the week in the ‘hoff really kicks off for everyone so expect smiling faces, wiggling bums and a general “we’re on holidaaay” atmosphere.

It’s tailor made for Snowbombers already travelling out the the festival who already fancy themselves as a bit of a deck wizard. If you want to get your week off to a flying start and follow in the footsteps of Andy C, Skream, Chase and Status, James Zabiela, DJ Yoda and, er, Pat Sharpe and cement your name amongst these legends of lore.

Here’s the set-up!

• You will be equipped with 1 x soundsystem & 1 x set of CDJs

We are out to find a fun group of snowbombers who can bring something to the table here. Props, fancy dress, theming the shed, giving it wheels and driving it around, whatever! Get creative and let us know why you should get a set.
