Our legendary Backcountry party in 2009 was rather random.
It’s was hijacked from under our noses by those mad–as-Heather-Mills-on-heat nutters, SQUEAKY HILL. What’s more, they turned it into an Old Folks home outing! How on earth did they expect doddery old blokes and sweet little grannies to lift logs and enter
The Lumberjack Olympics? Well they somehow succeded, because everyone had a fantastic time, maybe it was something to do with the
mystical schnapps wreaking havoc with their constitution?!
The Backcountry Party runs on the Tuesday of the festival. To book add the option when you book accommodation or log back into your booking.

The Typical Party ItineraryTravel by coach on the
Tuesday evening through the inside of a mountain to
“the forgotten valley” of Floitental. The coach then climbs up the steep sided valley,
through a wild forest, past the waterfall, to snowfields which lead to the Tux, glacier.
Here you’ll spend your evening in a unique venue:
the 200 year old Tristenbachalm: a converted traditional wooden farmstead…which possesses a sound system, split level bars, balcony, minstrels gallery, stage and…of course decks!
Like a typical backcountry party, there will be an outside space as well as indoors. Outside on the terrace, fires will keep you warm under the stars, as plucky souls Challenge the Lumberjack in a series of tree-trunk lifting and log-carrying tests of strength, spirit and sobriety…
The house speciality is Meisterwurz, or ‘devil schnapps’ as it is known in these parts. Distilled from the roots of a certain plant which only grows above 2000 metres, this brew can be hallucinogenic and mind-altering…especially if drunk at altitude! This magical place is 1200m…nearly 2000 feet higher than Mayrhofen, and higher than any mountain in the UK.
